ABOUT MEREDITH REFFNER-CALLENDER AND SWAN
Established in 2011, Swan Dancewear is nestled in the village of Narberth, a suburb of Philadelphia. Swan carries a wide selection of competitively-priced supplies, accessories and gifts for all varieties of dance. Studio dress codes are on file so we can assist you in finding just what you need for your particular school. In addition to dancewear, we also carry gymnastics, and fitness apparel.
Owner, Meredith Reffner-Callender started her professional career with the Washington Ballet, where she had the opportunity to work with Ms. Suzanne Farrell and perform in the Kennedy Center’s 25th Anniversary celebration. She then moved on to dance at the Fort Worth Dallas Ballet in Texas. Later, she moved back to the east coast to work with the Pennsylvania Ballet in Philadelphia, having the opportunity to perform soloist and principal roles. Some of Meredith’s favorite roles include the Siren in George Balanchine’s Prodigal Son, the Swan in Chris Wheeldon’s Carnival of the Animals, and Coffee in George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker. Meredith retired from the stage in 2010 and taught in the Philadelphia region for over 12 years. She can be found enjoying her free time with her husband, fellow dancer/teacher Rick Callender, and their two daughters.
As a dancer, Meredith understands the complexity of buying dance shoes and apparel. She and her carefully selected team make it a priority to provide customers with expert fittings and service.
Please feel free to contact Meredith with any questions. We look forward to seeing you at Swan!
PROFESSIONAL POINTE SHOE FITTINGS
Swan Dancewear provides footwear for all dance types, however their knowledge of ballet and specifically pointe shoes sets them apart. Having danced professionally and worn pointe shoes for many years, Meredith Callender has first-hand experience of how a shoe should not only look, but feel on the foot and function on the floor.
Led by Meredith, Swan's professional pointe shoe fittings are drawing dancers from the tri-state area. Swan's dedicated staff has extensive knowledge of dance (they are dancers and dance teachers themselves) and have a high level of training. Whether they are educating a first time pointe student about the anatomy of the shoe, or working with a pre-professional dancer to make her shoes last longer, Swan is here to give dancers the greatest care and attention possible. Please call to make an appointment.
